Tips on using and maintaining your Air Conditioning System.

Ÿ
Use your air conditioning regularly. In order to maintain your air conditioning system at peak performance you should run it for at least ten minutes each week. This helps to prevent vital seals from leaking by circulating oil and gas in the system.

Ÿ
Have your air conditioning serviced annually. Defects in air conditioning systems can significantly increase fuel consumption.

Ÿ
If your system fails have it checked out by an engineer. In some circumstances failure of the air conditioning pump can lead to total vehicle failure.

Ÿ
Water dripping from under your vehicle can be perfectly normal. In warm weather it's not unusual to find water dripping from the evaporator drain ports.  This is most likely in humid weather.

Ÿ
Use your air conditioning to demist windows. Switching on your air conditioning, with the heater if necessary, will dry the air in your vehicle and help rapid demisting of the windows.

Ÿ
Why does my air conditioning smell? The air conditioning system in your vehicle is very similar in many ways to your refrigerator in the home. The evaporator behind the dash has a maze of small ducts for air to pass over. These ducts are cold and wet with condensation. Mould can grow inside them as in a refrigerator. This mould can lead to an unpleasant smell in the vehicle described as anything from “musty” to “smelly socks.” A lot of research has been carried out into this problem and the results show that it can be linked to eye infections, flu type symptoms, allergy conditions etc. Fortunately the system can be treated with an anti bacterial process. We use different procedures depending on the type of system used in the vehicle, including an ultrasonic vaporisation method.  The result is a return to sweet smelling air in your vehicle.

Ÿ
Why do I need to have my A/C system serviced?
All vehicle air conditioning systems leak to some extent. Losses occur when refrigerant escapes through the pipe joints as a result of vibration and ageing of rubber hoses which become porous and 'O' ring seals, as well as through the seal on the front of the compressor shaft.
